Matthew Ebden came up short in the final of Newport overnight but in his defence he was facing a red hot Isner. The American’s rhythm on serve was incredible and he didn’t face a single break point en route to the title. It will be interesting to see if he can bring that form with him to the hard courts in Atlanta. With the majority of the top ranked players sitting out over the next fortnight is a great opportunity for those outside the top 50 to register wins and accumulate some points.

Maximilian Marterer v GIlles Simon

Clay is far from Gilles Simon’s favourite surface  but he should make light work of the local wildcard. Marterer is 0-6 on the ATP Tour this year and 0-10 lifetime. The Wolf is shocked to see the price available about Simon. The fact that Marterer is a lefty will play right into the hands of the Frenchman who will attack his backhand and really stretch him. We will see the German opt for the slice return off both wings and he tends to drop his returns mid court very regularly. It will cost him dearly as Simon will simply push the ball into the corners before taking up a dominant position at the net. Simon to win comfortably.

Best Bet: Simon -2.5 ($1.85)

Mikhail Youzhny v Radu Albot

Winning matches on clay has become a thing of the past for Youzhny. Since 2014 the Russian has had a losing record on clay and he is just 1-4 on the surface this season. At 35 he lacks the athleticism to do well on this surface and The Wolf expects Albot to push him around the court as a result. The Moldovan’s game is tailor made for this surface and he reached a career high 81 earlier this year. He has played most of his tennis on the Challenger Tour but the majority of those matches have been on clay. He is in fact the more experienced player on this surface and that will become clear throughout this match.

Best Bet: Albot WIN ($1.80)
