NRL Preview
Sydney Roosters v Canterbury Bulldogs

Thursday, March 9, 8.05pm (AEDT), Allianz Stadium, Sydney

The Roosters were one of the more impressive performers in Round 1, before they took their foot off the pedal in the second half against the Titans. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs woes in attack continue, after they had plenty of chances to win their Round 1 clash against the Storm.
History
The Roosters have won 4 of the last 6 matches against the Bulldogs, however the Bulldogs won both clashes in 2016. The Bulldogs defeated the Roosters 32-20 at ANZ Stadium in Round 11, with Tyrone Phillips scoring a hat-trick, while in Round 17 they won 24-20 at Allianz Stadium, with Brett Morris crossing for a double. The Bulldogs have the third highest winning percentage (60.45%) in matches played at Allianz Stadium behind Illawarra and Brisbane. The Bulldogs also won the 2004 NRL Grand Final 16-13 over the Roosters.
Form
The Roosters kicked off the season in scintillating form defeating the Titans 34-20 after leading 28-0 at halftime. That performance followed in from an offseason that saw the club win the Auckland Nines. Canterbury were once again terribly disappointing in the season opener with their attack again hapless in a 12-6 loss to Melbourne at Belmore. Canterbury’s halves had four handling errors between them while their kicking game once again put the Storm under no pressure.
Key Matchup
Luke Keary v Josh Reynolds. Keary couldn’t have been more impressive in his debut for the Roosters, scoring a double and looking a constant threat every time he took on the line. No one can question the effort of Reynolds, but too often he is found guilty of taking the wrong options when the Bulldogs are in attack. He needs to find cohesion with Moses Mbye if the Bulldogs are to do anything in the competition and cut out the errors, after making 3 in Round 1 against the Storm.
Stats That Matter
The Roosters covered and went over in Round 1 while the Bulldogs failed to cover and went under. The Bulldogs are 15-8 ATS on the road off a loss since 2013. The under is 33-22 when a road underdog of 4 or more scored single digits the start prior. The Roosters are 33-23 ATS at Allianz since 2013 while they are 24-17 ATS when favoured by 4.5 or more. Five of the last six Bulldogs-Roosters games have topped 44 points. Night games go under at 60% in the first four rounds since 2012. The under is 29-17 when a home team scored 30 points the week prior Rounds 1-10.
Final Thoughts
The Wolf is expecting a grinding affair between two of the strongest packs in the NRL, but can’t see the Bulldogs having enough points in them to win this one. The Bulldogs defence will keep it close, but Luke Keary and Mitchell Pearce look a lot more cohesive than the Bulldogs halves pairing of Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye. That will ultimately prove the difference here.
