Tonga didn’t have it all their own way in last week’s 24-22 quarter-final win over a gallant Lebanon, but did enough to book a date against England in the semi-finals. It was the likes of Andrew Fifita (18 runs for 198 metres) and Jason Taumalolo (17 runs for 217 metres) who led the way once again and will be looking forward to the battle against Sam Burgess and co. England were too strong in their 36-6 quarter-final win over PNG, but their completion rate will need to improve if they’re to avoid an upset by the giant-killing Tongan side. English winger Jermaine McGillvary was very strong in the quarter-final win, with 232 running metres, 4 line-breaks, 2 try-assists and 2 tries for good measure. Sam Burgess also made a strong return from injury (17 runs for 161 metres) and his battle against the Tongan forwards is worth the price of admission alone. The Wolf is tipping the Tongan fairytale to come to an end in Auckland on Saturday night. Tonga could have easily lost to Lebanon, while England coach Wayne Bennett won’t let the possible opportunity to meet Australia in a World Cup Final to slip.
