Sydney Swans star Adam Goodes says it is good to be "back on deck" following time off prompted by persistent booing by crowds, adding that he wants to put the issue behind him and get on with playing football.

Goodes returned to training with the Swans today after a week off and is expected to take to the field for Saturday's match against Geelong.

He said he definitely was not in "the right frame of mind" to take the field against the Crows in Adelaide last weekend.

"It was nice to have the time away — I definitely needed to have that break and get away from it all," Goodes said in an interview on the Swans website, adding that he felt like today was "the first day back at school".

Goodes' return follows an outpouring of support on and off the field at AFL matches over the weekend.

Melbourne's players wore red, yellow and black arm bands to represent the Aboriginal flag, and the Western Bulldogs and Richmond teams wore Indigenous Round jerseys.

The Swans entered the ground for their match against Adelaide through a banner that said "RESPECT", and the crowd stood to applaud Goodes for a full minute at the seven-minute mark of the third quarter — a reference to Goodes' jersey number, 37.

"It's incredible — it's incredibly humbling, to the honest," Goodes said.

"Our supporters here at the Swans were absolutely amazing on the weekend. I know, speaking to a few of the players, they said the atmosphere out there was incredible.

"And just the support from the AFL industry, to be honest. It's not surprising, because the AFL, we do look after our own extremely well, [but] I felt very loved over the weekend."

Goodes said a lot had been said about the booing controversy over the past week and he hoped the issue had now been put to bed.

"I think those discussions needed to be had, and I am really hopeful that those discussions are behind us now and we can all move on," he said.

"I think people have had their opinions, they have spoken about the issues, and hopefully now we can move forward.

"Whether this is my last year or not, I really want to be able to go out there and enjoy the last five games of the season and another finals campaign and see what happens."
