Zamalek v Wadi Degla
Monday August 03, 18:30
However dull our good friend Tobias would like the Allsvenskan to be, those pesky Swedes seem to have no intention of curbing their love of excitement. IFK Gothenburg's 6-0 win did neither Orebro nor TG's Under 2.5 Goals bet any favours.
During a recent holiday in Dubrovnik I got used to searing heat, so to help me acclimatise we're starting the week in Egypt. It's the final game of the Premier League season, and the champions Zamalek are hoping to sign off in style at home to Wadi Degla, who will finish fifth in the standings regardless of what happens today.
Zamalek have been crowned champions for the first time since 2004, despite a turbulent campaign in which they have used four coaches. Current boss Jesualdo Ferreira used his vast experience to make sure Zamalek sealed the deal, and there could be a treble for the White Knight, as they are also in contention to win the Egyptian Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup.
Wadi Degla were promoted to the top flight for the first time in their history in 2010, and a fifth-place finish is a fine achievement. It could've been an even better season, had Hamada Sedki's men not faded in the second half of the campaign with a run of just five wins in 21 games.
I fancy goals in this one, with Over 2.5 Goals available at an attractive 1.97. Zamalek are theleague's top scorers, with 69 goals scored in 37 games. They have also scored more goals at home than any other side, netting 43 times. Seven of their last 11 outings in the league have featured at least three goals, including their last four games at the Cairo International Stadium.
Wadi Degla have also been entertaining of late, as five of their last seven league games have seen an Over 2.5 Goals bet pay out. Today's visitors have kept just one clean sheet in that sequence, and I expect their defence to be breached at least a couple of times today.
