South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire has paid tribute to Ben Lowe after the forward announced his retirement from the sport.
The 30-year-old ends his 117-game career as a one-club player, saying injuries had made it impossible for him to continue.
Lowe played in the club's World Club Challenge win earlier this season, and was part of the squad when they won the grand final last year.
The Rabbitohs are 11/2 to win the premiership.
Maguire said: "Benny is one of the hardest working players we have at our club and he has been a major contributor to the culture within this club today.
"He's a fantastic team member, and he will be doing his best to push the group along for the rest of the season, despite not being on the field with them."
Announcing the end of his eight-season career, Lowe said: "Due to injuries I've had to make the difficult decision to retire from football immediately.
"It hasn't been the easiest decision to make but after long conversations with family and loved ones it was the best for my welfare and the best for my family as we head into life after football."
Meanwhile, forward Greg Eastwood will miss the Bulldogs' game against Brisbane after being suspended by the NRL judiciary.
He was banned for a grade one charge on Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce, as he had carried over 73 points from a previous incident.
The Bulldogs are 33/20 to beat the Broncos, who are 12/25.
Canberra winger Edrick Lee has also been banned for a week after he entered an early guilty plea for a tripping charge cited for an incident involving Justin O'Neill of the Cowboys.
