Juventus striker Fernando Llorente has emerged as an surprise transfer target for Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal according to reports in Mirror Sport.
The Red Devils have been extremely active in the transfer market so far this summer as they have strengthened the squad with four new players as Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin all joined in time for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
The latter marked his debut with a goal against Club America at the weekend and manager Louis van Gaal has been vocal in the media of his intentions to add a forward to his squad before the transfer window shuts in just under a month’s time.
Following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao earlier in the summer, United are a little light in options in attack and the Dutch boss hinted earlier in the week [via Mirror Sport] that a secret deal was in place for a new striker.
Whilst he refused to reveal the identity of the striker, it’s understood that van Gaal has asked to be kept informed regarding the situation involving Spanish World Cup winner Llorente, who was linked with a move to Liverpool earlier in the summer [via Mail Sport].
