Sydney big man Kurt Tippett faces several weeks on the sidelines after breaking his hand in the 89-point defeat to Hawthorn.
The former Adelaide star has had surgery to insert a steel plate into his right hand to help speed up his recovery time. He was injured in the second quarter against the Hawks and though he played on he struggled to make an impact and finished with just eight possessions.
Coach John Longmire said: "The bloke got a broken hand in the second quarter, he did really well (to keep playing). The doc said he would have subbed him at half-time if there was a player available."
Tippett has kicked 25 goals this season, despite spending less time in attack - he has been used as Sydney's back-up ruckman to Mike Pyke. Sydney are 5.50 to win the Grand Final.
Although Tippett has drawn criticism for his statistics, with just six games of double-figure possessions, Longmire has defended him.
"His role has changed a fair bit this year and I was on public record as saying that if he gets 40-odd goals for the year and has played 50 per cent of his time in the ruck, it's not a bad role," said the coach.
"We could get more out of him at different times, but his ruck work over the past two or three weeks has actually been pretty good, and he's still been hitting the scoreboard."
The Swans are hoping Pyke, who missed the Hawthorn match with a knee problem, can recover in time to take on West Coast on Sunday where they are 2.35.
It will otherwise leave 20-year-old Toby Nankervis, who has played just two games, as the side's first choice option in the centre square up against 2012 All Australian Nic Naitanui.
Midfielder Craig Bird suffered a calf strain against the Hawks and will be out for up to a month.
