The Manly Sea Eagles are reportedly cutting 14 players from their squad ahead of the 2016 season.

Most of the group of players to be released are forwards. Channel Nine reports Luke Burgess, Feleti Mateo, Willie Mason and Justin Horo are among the players to be dumped.

It has also been reported Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey has been offered a payout to quit coaching Manly's first team for a lesser job at the club, but he had refused it.

Sea Eagles players will front the media on Wednesday afternoon for the first time since speculation of the mass axeing surfaced.

Manly currently sits 13th on the ladder on 16 points and is in serious danger of missing the finals.
