Skipper Nick Riewoldt will need to pass a fitness test to play in St Kilda's clash with Melbourne on Sunday.
Riewoldt had been in doubt for the Saints' meeting with Richmond at the weekend with a calf strain and, although he was passed fit to play, he was hurt in the 16-point defeat to the Tigers.
Head physio Andrew Wallis said: "Just prior to half-time he copped an accidental studding to the leg on that same calf from an opponent. He's pulled up really well and we will do what we did last week and test him."
Wallis said that if Riewoldt came through training on Thursday with no further problems he would be available for selection against the Demons at the MCG, a game St Kilda are 1.87 to win.
The Saints star drew praise from Richmond defender Troy Chaplin after Sunday's clash for his determination and skill.
Chaplin had the job of trying to shackle Riewoldt and was made to work hard. "I know he hurt [his calf] a couple of times during the game with a couple of knocks, but he's got the smarts. Even when he was on one leg it was tough going," he said.
The Saints should have Daniel McKenzie available this weekend after he overcame a virus that kept him out of the last round.
Meanwhile, Jack Billings will begin running early next week as he steps up his recovery from a shin injury. But Tom Curren is still at least two months away from playing after fracturing his fibula.
The Saints have faltered since their huge 110-point win over Essendon in round 14, losing back-to-back games.
St Kilda are 1.95 conceding a 1.5-point start against Melbourne.
