Arsenal v West Ham

Arsenal

Two managers under great pressure here and the scrutiny of Arsene Wenger's position is unrelenting even after Sunday's 2-2 draw at home to Manchester City, which carried no hint that the players weren't performing for him.

That result kept Arsenal in sixth, seven points off a Champions League place but with a game or two in hand that could take them close to the top four.

West Ham

Slaven Bilic once again cut a disconsolate figure after Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Hull, which was West Ham's fourth straight defeat, and his position looks shaky.

The Hammers are winless in six games and have dropped to 14th, now just six points clear of the relegation zone.

Match Odds

Arsenal's performance against City on Sunday was by far their best of 2017 and their home form is not that bad, with most of their dropped points (seven out of 12) having come against current top-four teams.

The only poor results at the Emirates were the goalless draw with Middlesbrough in October and the shock 2-1 defeat against Watford in January that really entrenched their slump.

Arsenal's overall home record against teams below them is W8 D1 L1, which justifies their position as strong favourites.
West Ham have yet to keep a clean sheet against a big-six team and their record against the elite group is W0 D2 L7, which includes a 5-1 home defeat by Arsenal on December 3 that was particularly memorable for Alexis Sanchez's brilliant dinked chip to complete his hat-trick.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals

With 58 goals, Arsenal are the third-highest scorers (behind Liverpool and Chelsea) but their defence has been more porous than in recent seasons (36 goals conceded is already equal to last season's total) and 20 of their 28 games have gone over 2.5 goals.

That puts them joint-second in that category and West Ham also rank highly for over 2.5 goals, with 18 out of 30 (60%).

Most notably, seven out of West Ham's nine matches against big-six teams have gone over 2.5 goals (with five of the nine over 3.5 goals).

But over 2.5 goals is short at 1.49 and even over 3.5 goals is 2.12.

Both Teams To Score

While not keeping a clean sheet against a big-six team, West Ham have scored in seven of their nine matches in that category and they might well do so again.

Arsenal have kept five clean sheets at home this season but three of them were against teams who average less than a goal per game on the road. The Gunners have conceded in six out of eight against teams who average at least a goal per game in away matches (and West Ham are well above that at 1.6).

Yes in Both Teams to Score is available at 1.71 and looks a good alternative to over 2.5 goals.

Match Odds and Both Teams To Score

With Arsenal holding a strong win chance, it is worth taking a punt on a dual market and this looks the best option.

Arsenal to win and both teams to score is available at 13/8 with Betfair Sportsbook. Five of Arsenal's nine home wins have come in that fashion, but perhaps more significantly West Ham have scored in all five trips to top six-teams (but still lost three of them).

Ref Watch

Martin Atkinson
is one of the most experienced Premier League referees, often taking charge of the bigger matches. Four of his nine games involving a big-six club have had no more than 20 bookings points.
