NRL Preview
Penrith Panthers v South Sydney Rabbitohs

Friday, April 7, 7:50pm (AEST), Pepper Stadium, Penrith

The Panthers will be determined to bounce back after their 28-6 loss to the undefeated Storm. The Rabbitohs went down by 20-6 in Townsville and coach Michael Maguire will be demanding an 80-minute performance at the foot of the mountains. Panthers centre Tyrone Peachey will miss the clash with a rib injury, while Bryce Carwright is nearing a return and could be a late inclusion. In breaking news, Matt Moylan, Waqa Blake and Peta Hiku have been dropped to NSW Cup following a breach of team protocol.
History
The Panthers have lost 5 of the last 7 clashes against the Rabbitohs, but did win last year’s clash 28-26 at Penrith. Rabbitohs enforcer Sam Burgess crossed for a double in a losing side.
Form
Penrith have started the season 2-3, a record that belies the quality of football they have played. A 28-6 defeat to Melbourne was not reflective of the strong effort they put in while they were also unlucky against the Roosters. South Sydney’s season is fast slipping away despite sharing a 2-3 record with the Panthers. Souths have been comfortably beaten by both the Sydney Roosters and North Queensland, scoring just a single try in each. Souths have conceded at least 18 points in four of their five matches.
Key Matchup
Nathan Cleary v Adam Reynolds. Cleary has made a strong start to the season and looks a future NSW No.7 in the making. Reynolds has made a steady start to his 2017 season after appendicitis ruled him out of Round 1. He does have four try-assists across the first five rounds, but needs to find consistency if he wants to win the Blues No.7 jersey over Mitchell Pearce or James Maloney.
Stats That Matter
Penrith are 2-3 ATS with a 4-1 under record while South Sydney are 2-3 ATS with a 3-2 under number. The Bunnies have won 5 of the last 7 against the Panthers but Penrith have won the last two on home turf. Penrith are 7-4 under off scoring 12 points or less.
Final Thoughts
Despite the massive changes to the Panthers line-up, The Wolf is predicting the Panthers to bounce back after their loss to the Storm. However, the 6.5 start for the Rabbitohs looks the best bet in the match, especially when you consider their recent record over the Panthers. Panthers in a tight one.
