Swansea City 5.40 v Tottenham Hotspur 1.76; The Draw 3.95
Wednesday, 19:45

Swansea City

Swansea remain deep in the relegation battle sitting just one point above the bottom three in the Premier League.Paul Clement made an early impact after taking charge in January with the side claiming four wins in six games including a memorable victory at Liverpool. But the Swans have been sucked back into trouble after a run of one win in five matches.

The form of Hull City has put pressure on Swansea and Clement's side have picked up just one point from their last three games. The Swans missed a big opportunity to earn an important win after being held to a goalless draw at home to second-bottom Middlesbrough on Sunday. But the team have a reasonable run-in with this game against Spurs one of their toughest remaining fixtures in the battle to stay up.

Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino's side are refusing to give up the chase with second-placed Spurs closing the gap on leaders Chelsea to seven points. Tottenham claimed a 2-0 victory at Burnley on Saturday and profited from the Blues' shock home defeat against Crystal Palace. The title remains a long shot but Spurs look nailed on for a Champions League spot.

Even without injured striker Harry Kane, Tottenham have remained consistent and come into this game off the back of five consecutive wins in all competitions. With only one defeat in 14 league matches, it is hard to pick fault in Spurs' form and they have an excellent record against Swansea. Tottenham have won nine of their last 10 meetings and have gone 12 games unbeaten against the Swans.

Match Odds

Hosts Swansea are outsiders at 5.40 but there is no temptation to back them. The Swans failed to beat a poor Boro side last weekend and have a wretched recordagainst Tottenham. Clement will know his side's fate this season will not be decided by this game and may even have one eye on the weekend trip to West Ham which is a more winnable prospect.

Tottenham are worthy favourites and will have plenty of followers at odds of 1.76. In their current form you cannot quibble at this and they are by far the most likely winners. The only reservation would be their away record which has seen them win only five of their 14 league matches.

The draw is around the 3.95 mark and this should not be dismissed out of hand. Spurs have drawn six away matches this season but Swansea have not been held since November. A Tottenham victory is fancied but it may be worth turning to other markets which offer a more tempting price.

To Score

Christian Eriksen has an excellent scoring record against Swansea. The Spurs midfielder netted twice in their 5-0 win this season which took his tally to five in as many games against them. Eriksen has also scored three goals in his last two visits to the Liberty Stadium. The Denmark international has 13 goals for club and country this season and looks worth backing to add to his eyecatching scoring form against the Swans at 21/10.

Ref Watch

Jonathan Moss has dismissed three players this season. Two of those three red cards have been shown to Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
