NRL Preview
New Zealand Warriors v Gold Coast Titans

Sunday, April 2, 2pm (AEDT), Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland

We’re only four rounds through the competition, but the pressure is already building on Stephen Kearney and the Warriors. They’ve had the one fortunate victory over the Knights and need to start delivering on a consistent basis with the roster they have. Kieran Foran has been named to take his spot in the No.6 jersey after his late withdrawal against the Dragons last week.
History
The Warriors have won 11 of their last 12 against the Titans with their last five victories being by eight-plus. The Warriors won both clashes in 2016. They won the Round 17 clash at Mt Smart 27-18 and followed it up in Round 22 on the Gold Coast with a 24-14. Warriors centre Solomone Kata crossed for a double on that occasion.
Form
New Zealand have been one of the biggest disappointments in 2017 with their opening round win over Newcastle followed with losses to Melbourne, Canterbury and St George Illawarra. Defensively the Warriors are a mess with 22 points conceded in all four outings. Gold Coast have just the one win but have shown glimpses of their best of 2016 with a good showing against the Cowboys in defeat. Their attack has been strong with 20 points in all four games but on three occasions they have conceded 34 points.
Key Matchup
Shaun Johnson v Ashley Taylor. NSW Coach Laurie Daley was vocal during the week about the form of Johnson and even suggested that he should be dropped. The Wolf can’t agree with Loz and thinks Johnson is doing his best in a side that is under-performing. Johnson looks primed to have a huge game here. Taylor is one of the best up-and-coming halves in the game and is making a name for himself on the Gold Coast. Taylor already has 9 try-assists for the season and the Titans would be wise to do everything possible to keep him at Robina.
Stats That Matter
New Zealand are the only team without a cover this year with a 0-4 ATS number to go with a 2-2 total record. Gold Coast are 1-3 ATS with a 3-1 over record. The Warriors have won 11 of their last 12 against the Titans with their last five victories being by eight-plus. New Zealand are 17-9 over at home when favoured by 4 or more at Mt Smart while the over is 10-6 at Mt Smart when the Warriors are a favourite.
Final Thoughts
The Wolf has been hurt by the Warriors too many times in the past and is going to play the total in this one. Both teams should throw the ball around in this one and defence won’t be a strong suit. If you have to back a side, proceed with caution and take the Warriors.
