NRL Preview
Gold Coast Titans v Canberra Raiders

Saturday, April 8, 5:30pm (AEST), Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast

The Titans have an awful injury toll at present, but coach Neil Henry has built a resilient culture at Robina and you can expect a determined effort by the Titans on Saturday night despite missing key troops in Jarryd Hayne, Nathan Peats and Tyrone Roberts. The Raiders are better than a 2-3 team and will start to hit their straps over the coming weeks.  The have a strong edge in the forward pack and get plenty of impact from their bench. They will also be boosted by the return of Elliott Whitehead from suspension.
History
The Titans have won 7 of the last 11 against the Raiders while the last five matches have all topped 40 points. Both teams shared the spoils in 2016, with the Titans winning 24-20 at Canberra in Round 4, while the Raiders got the job done 30-22 in Round 16 on the Gold Coast. Raiders skipper Jarrod Croker scored a double in the eight-point win and also scored a try in the Round 4 loss.
Form
Gold Coast were courageous in defeat against the Warriors, going down in the final five minutes when left without a player on the bench. They have scored 22-plus in their last four but on four occasions have conceded at least 28 points. Canberra been a lot better than their 2-3 record suggests with only one ordinary performance. They enter this off a good home victory over Parramatta. Two of their losses have been close ones on the road to Queensland teams North Queensland and Brisbane.
Key Matchup
Ashley Taylor v Aidan Sezer. Taylor has been outstanding to start the season and is an Origin player in the making. Taylor already has 10 try-assists across five rounds and is starting to find cohesion with Kane Elgey after Elgey’s extended absence. Sezer returns to the Gold Coast to take on one of his former clubs and will be looking to build on his performance against the Eels last week. Sezer has two-try assists in the win, but needs to take on the line more. He’ll be determined to remind the Titans of his ability.
Stats That Matter
Gold Coast are 2-3 ATS with a 4-1 over record while Canberra are 4-1 ATS with a 3-2 over record. The Titans have won 7 of the last 11 against the Raiders while the last five matches have all topped 40 points. Home underdogs of 4.5 or more are 65-27 ATS since 2008 in the first eight rounds of the season and 31-16 ATS Rounds 5-8. Home underdogs of 4.5 or more who scored 22 are 35-11 ATS Rounds 1-8.
Final Thoughts
It’s already been mentioned, but the Titans are one of the most resilient sides in the NRL and you have to beat them, they won’t beat themselves. The Raiders look strong across the park and are near-full-strength for this clash. The Raiders will get the job done through their massive forward pack, but it’s impossible to ignore the Titans good record against the Green Machine. Raiders in a high-scoring encounter.
