NRL Preview
Parramatta Eels v Wests Tigers

Monday, April 17, 4pm (AEST), ANZ Stadium, Sydney

The Eels are in desperate need of a win after dropping four-matches straight after starting the season 2-0. Meanwhile, the Tigers produced the upset of the season for new coach Ivan Cleary, downing the Cowboys in Townsville 26-16. All eyes will be on Tigers five-eighth Mitchell Moses, who has signed for the Eels in 2018, but could still make a mid-season move after this clash with his new club.
History
The Tigers have long had the best of Parramatta winning 8 of their last 12 against the Eels. Both of teams recorded a win against each other in 2016, with the Eels winning the Easter Monday clash 8-0, while the Tigers bounced back in Round 21, with a 23-8 victory. Four of the last five matches have tallied less than 39 points.
Form
Parramatta’s season is in free-fall with four straight defeats after opening the year 2-0. The Eels have conceded 20-plus in all four losses while they have passed 20 just once this season. The Tigers have struggled all season but come into this off the upset of the season, a stunning 26-16 win in Townsville over the Cowboys in their first game under coach Ivan Cleary. The club’s -78 differential is clear worst in the NRL.
Key Matchup
Clinton Gutherson v James Tedesco. Gutherson has made the move to fullback after the injury to Bevan French and needs to find his feet again at the back after proving a revelation in the halves. Tedesco hasn’t been his explosive self over the past few weeks, but a big performance is only around the corner. The Eels won’t want to be lazy around the ruck otherwise “Teddy” will tear them apart.
Stats That Matter
Parramatta are 2-4 ATS with a 4-2 under record while the Wests Tigers are 2-4 ATS with a 4-2 under record. The Tigers have long had the best of Parramatta winning 8 of their last 12 against the Eels. Four of the last five matches have tallied less than 39 points. The Eels have covered 6 of their last 8 at ANZ with 7 of their last 9 going under. Parramatta have covered 5 of their last 7 day games while the Tigers have failed to cover five straight day matches.
Final Thoughts
The Wolf is ignoring the Tigers strong recent record over the Eels and is taking Brad Arthur’s men purely based on desperation. The Tigers will be still be on a high after their shock in Townsville and might not be switched on to get in the arm wrestle with the Eels. The Eels are too good a side to keep down, with players like Corey Norman and Semi Radradra in line for a strong effort here. Eels to return to the winner’s circle.
