NRL Preview
Melbourne Storm v Cronulla Sharks

Sunday, April 9, 4pm (AEST), AAMI Park, Melbourne

The grand final rematch will wrap up Round 6 and couldn’t have come at a better time for the Storm. The Storm are the only undefeated team through five rounds and are the clear benchmark in the competition. The shock news that Cooper Cronk will be leaving Melbourne after this season should inspire the side for a big performance for their little general.
History
The Storm have won 11 of the last 14 against the Sharks but missed the big one last year. The Storm won last year’s Round 26 clash 26-6 at AAMI Park, with Cheyse Blair scoring a double. As already mentioned, the Sharks got their revenge a few weeks later, winning the 2016 grand final 14-12. The Sharks have not won in Melbourne since 2008 with their last four losses by margins of 18-plus.
Form
Defence has again been what the Storm’s unbeaten run has been built on with the Storm not conceding more than 14 points in a match. Cronulla were lucky to escape with a one-point win over Newcastle and have been patchy throughout the season. They have won their last two.
Key Matchup
Cooper Cronk v Chad Townsend. Cronk has been in the headlines after the shock news that this will be his final year at the Storm and will want a repeat of his performance against the Panthers last week. He scored a try and set one up in the 28-6 over the Panthers. Townsend has made a steady start to the season and will be looking over his shoulder with the news that Cronk is coming to Sydney next year. Townsend has three try-assists across the five opening rounds, but it will be his kicking game that will be crucial in an expected low-scoring affair.
Stats That Matter
Melbourne are 4-1 ATS with a 4-1 under record while Cronulla are 2-3 ATS with a 3-2 under record. The Storm have won 11 of the last 14 against the Sharks but missed the big one last year. The Sharks have not won in Melbourne since 2008 with their last four losses by margins of 18-plus.
Final Thoughts
The Wolf is backing the Storm to make amends for last year’s grand final loss on the back of their brickwall defence. They’ve only conceded 48 points so far this season and will grind the Sharks out of this one.
