Sunderland

As weeks go, this has probably one David Moyes will want to forget when he looks back on his career. The Sunderland boss apologised for recent comments made to a female BBC reporter which were caught on camera and his side are marooned at the foot of the table after defeats at Watford and Leicester City. It leaves them ten points off safety with only eight games remaining.

There was a flicker of hope after Sunderland's 4-0 win at Crystal Palace in February. But while the Eagles have put four wins together, Moyes' side have failed to claim a victory and not even managed a goal in the six matches since. Sunderland are hugely reliant on Jermain Defoe but the England striker has not scored since the Palace win and the team's hopes of survival appear to be long gone.

Manchester United

Jose Mourinho's side have not lost in the Premier League since their 4-0 defeat at Chelsea in October but their hopes of finishing in the top four remain in the balance. Manchester United's problems have stemmed from far too many draws with 12 the most in the league. Two more have come in the last week at Old Trafford with West Brom and Everton denting their chances of clinching a Champions League place.

Sitting sixth in the table, United are four points off rivals Man City with a game in hand. Their frustrations have mainly been at home with Mourinho's side much stronger this season on the road. United have won eight of their 13 away league games with just two defeats. The recent return from suspension of Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a boost after he fired a late equaliser from the penalty spot against Everton on Tuesday.

Match Odds

Sunderland are desperate for a victory but according to the odds, as big as 11.00, are given little or no chance. On current form this is understandable with wins and goals non-existent recently. Sunderland have not won at home since beating Watford in December and even at this price it is hard to fancy them.

Man United are obvious favourites but their price of 1.37 is extremely stingy and offers no appeal considering their tendency to drop points. United have failed to win on their last three visits to Sunderland so there are reasons for steering clear of them at such short odds.

The draw is on offer at 5.40 and this has to be considered in a game involving United. Mourinho's side are the draw specialists and Sunderland's last home game ended in a stalemate. But this outcome does little for either side at this stage of the season and ultimately United are fancied to win. That said, their odds are far too short to consider so a different market offers a tempting bet.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals

Sunderland's struggle for goals has been well documented and the hosts' last five games have all produced under three goals. Man United are hardly prolific either and six of their last seven matches have seen no more than two scored. This suggests odds of 2.18 on under 2.5 goals are very favourable and well worth taking with another low scoring game likely.

Ref Watch

Craig Pawson officiates this weekend's game with the referee dishing out four red cards this season. This is already one more than he gave out in the whole of last year's campaign.
